@DaftBrian I have actually… it does work for the water weight but since it’s not exactly “natural” I’m not sure I feel comfortable promoting it on here.. but yes I do think it works, just not sure about the side effects later in life

@suddenlyIsee18 If you want to lose weight, it’s not a good investment of calories, bc it’s so high in sugar, but it has some great vitamins too

It depends on the …
It depends on the type of artificial sweetener(s) used in the beverage. Studies show that aspartame does not significantly affect insulin release- including CPIR. However, soda companies often use a blend of different sweeteners so its important to read labels.

Actually if you …
Actually if you google lettuce most of them say the protien content is around 1-2%. On another post you did refer to the dry weight of lettuce (without water content) in which case it is true that its around 20-25% but that is just an arbitary value as few eat dehydraded foods. All im saying is its not really a good source of protien as oposed to a portion of fish and chicken. if you dont want to go down the livestock root then beans and nuts are a good alternative

Can you do a video …
Can you do a video on a diet that helps you lose 5-10 lbs? Thats all I need to lose, and I’m confused on what I have to do

2) Epidemiological …
2) Epidemiological studies that link diet to cancer are very limited in the sense that there are so many confounding variables in human studies, and especially in those related to cancer development (ex: genetics, exposure to radiation, mutagens, etc.). A lot of the relevant mouse studies are ~ 50 years old; however, more recent studies indicate that thermolyzed casein (animal protein) promotes growth of precursors to colon cancer.

The insulin release …
The insulin release is controlled by a strong adjusted system. That’s why the body does not release any insulin when it is not necessary (speaking of a healthy person that has no metabolic interferences). And the aspect of insulin resistance is just a hypothesis, its not proved yet.

tiffanyvelvet March 2, 2010 at 6:50 pm

What your refer to …
What your refer to is the cephalic phase insulin release. But for a significant insulin release it requires more than just a sweet taste. In fact insulin release is influenced by the presence of glucose, amino acids, free fatty acids and certain hormones. But Diet soda does neither contain sugar/carbs nor fat or amino acids.

1) Evidence from …
1) Evidence from interventional studies suggests that the consumption of diets containing saturated fats increases production of inflammatory cytokines (TNFalpha and IL-6) that contribute to atherosclerosis. Furthermore, high fat diets have been shown to suppress lymphocyte proliferation and function (Increased susceptibility to viral infection).

joeykunz March 2, 2010 at 6:50 pm

Agree …
Agree thoughtpatterns, I called shenanigans as soon as I heard that. Fitness “experts” seem to be on a fad of bashing diet sodas. There are no FACTS that prove it “makes you fat”.
