Managing Your Risk Of Suffering With Heartburn And Acid Reflux

Whenever I suffer from heartburn and acid reflux I am luckier than many thanks to the fact is mostly something that happens only occasionally. Heartburn is a very uncomfortable and unpleasant sensation that makes people wonder why they are experiencing and they may simply have to cope with occasional acid reflux.

When I get a bout of heartburn it is usually only for a short period of time and it goes
almost as quickly as it arrives. I am lucky though and other people find that the symptoms of heartburn will regularly reoccur and in many cases they may have to learn to live with.

It is said that the cause of heartburn experienced by so many people is most commonly the failure of the small sphincter valve which fails to close in the correct way when it should. The purpose of this sphincter valve is to close up after eating to prevent acidic stomach gases rising up and making your throat feel like it is burning but unfortunately it sometimes fails and when this occurs the gases can rise up to give you the uncomfortable burning sensation we all know. Knowing this makes it easy to understand the burning feelings we experience when suffering from heartburn and acid reflux symptoms occurring.

Should the valve remain open for a long period of time it might damage the throat lining but temporary heartburn does not usually cause any long lasting complications. It is very important that any medical condition is properly investigate so seek a diagnosis by arranging to visit your doctor to be reassured about your health and be guided accordingly.

Some of the things we can do to try to lessen the effects of symptoms of heartburn and to try to lessen the frequency of such occurrences. Occurrences of heartburn and acid reflux seem to happen to me most often when I am already tired and I therefore assume that a good sleep pattern is beneficial.

I often read that there are foods that many people find lead to periods of heartburn and avoiding coffee and spicy foods may help reduce the frequency. Smoking may also be a factor which is probably due to the throat suffering the effects of the smoke and adding to the problems.

Like a lot of other health conditions and issues eating a healthy diet combined with some exercise and good sleeping patterns may help. A healthy lifestyle may reduce the effects and also curb the frequencies of bouts of heart burn and also reduce the severity of the symptoms of acid reflux you suffer.
