Living healthy does not only concern your choice of diet plan or choice of food. You also need healthy eating habits. That is: what you eat and when you eat it, and how often. This is as important as the actual diet – what foods to choose. Why? Eating a bunch of food at once is bad for you. For example, does this situation sound familiar to you? You are already late from work, so you skip breakfast. At work you have a lot of things to do, so you skip dinner. All you eat is some coffee and cookies or something sweet to keep the blood sugar up. When you return home, dead tired and awfully hungry, you eat the fridge empty. Or you stop at McDonald’s on the way and order the biggest meal they have, double everything. Or you stop at the candy store and buy a bag full of chocolate.

Junk food is still not okay. Becoming vegetarian can definitely improve your chances to lose weight, but it’s not a license to make poor food choices! Sure, you can buy vegetarian chips, cookies, and cakes, but should you? You should stay far, far away from junk food, whether it’s vegetarian-friendly or not. Increase your intake of fresh fruit, vegetables, and whole grains, which are high in fiber and low in fat, and can help you lose those extra pounds.

Did you know that some diets suggest you eat not more than 2,5 hours apart? This means that between meals you should eat a snack, too. This way you will stay active and your insulin levels will not drop too low. You will stay functional and your brain will work at full power. You will feel better and achieve more. Then, what kind of snacks should you have? Not those mentioned before – burgers, french fries or candy. These are high on either carbohydrates or fat, or both. They don’t nourish you, but instead they wear you down, and they make you fat.

Instead you should have a healthy snack now and then. If at work, this could mean eating a fruit instead of a candy bar. This might require some planning. Take something with you.

Losing weight can be a daunting task, but it’s not impossible. Vegetarian weight loss just might be your ticket to a healthier lifestyle, if you approach it with care and consideration.
